The staff at the hotel made our stay incredible. There was a warm greeting when we arrived, helpful advice on buses. Robert went so far beyond for us, and even contacted a friend at our next stay in St Andrews to get us late reservations at their restaurant. And Laura went above and beyond by calling her dad to get advice on which store to buy a proper tweed jacket for our son. Our room was lovely. Breakfast was great. I will recommend to our friends, for sure!

We stayed at this hotel in January with my fiancé for my birthday weekend, and it was the worst experience ever. I’ve traveled to over 30 countries, but I’ve never had such a bad experience.
The reception looked lovely, and we had a tour included in our deal. However, the receptionist didn’t know how we could book it. We also had to wait a long time to get our room key, even though people who arrived after us got their keys right away. But that was fine.
The room was spacious and clean, but it felt cold, and the floor was very creaky.
Our breakfast experience was terrible on both days. On the first day, I ordered avocado toast, but the avocado was completely unripe, dark, and not fresh. I told the server, but I was still hungry that day. On the second day, I decided to try the full breakfast, and it was just as bad—cold, not fresh, and the eggs were so dry it seemed like they had been sitting out for hours, or maybe even left over from the day before.
The worst part happened later that night when I returned to the home I had food poisoning for two days, something that has never happened to me before. If you’re wondering how I know it was from the breakfast, I know because I vomited everything I had eaten: the mushrooms, sausage, and eggs. It was disgusting and dangerous. Your food hygiene standards are very poor.
Additionally, around 5-6 AM, we were woken up by the fire alarm. We were told it was triggered by the eggs being cooked in the kitchen. While that may be acceptable for some people, it caused me a lot of anxiety, as I’ve been through war, and any loud noise still scares me, even though I left my country three years ago. This triggered my anxiety, and I still can’t sleep properly.
So, thank you very much for the worst birthday weekend ever.

It’s clear that the service, food quality, and the fire alarm incident caused a lot of distress, which is not something any guest should experience.

Voco was in a great location for us to walk to everything. The staff was so attentive to all our needs. The room was large and overlooked the beautiful court yard. Just Loved the feel of this charming building rich with so much History. I can not say enough wonderful things regarding the Voco !!!!!!!! Thank you for making our trip so special.

Let me start with a positive point. The lady on duty to whom we reported the problem described above found a good solution, fast. Kudos.
However, here were our issues. First, the room we booked in advance was not available when we arrived. As a platinum elite and ambassador member I found that surprising. Second, this turned out to matter in a very tangible way, as the room we were given had a shower with a faulty temperature control. Consequently, both myself and my daughter were burned by the hot water while we tried (unsuccessfully) to fix the issue. We were given use of a shower in another room down the corridor, while contonuing to use our assigned room, but obviously this was not ideal.
Third, a minor complaint: we left early the next morning, and had asked for packed breakfasts to be made available at the front desk on check out. We never received them.

This hotel is only. 5 minute walk from the main city centre, it has great keen appeal however the room we had (room 9) could have done with a deep clean. Shaving mirror had rust, extractor fan was filthy and bath had a few chips in it. Large mirror in room was opposite a power point so my wife wouldn’t see herself in mirror whilst straightening her hair. Overall this wasn’t the best experience. If the room was clean and better designed then I rooms have no hesitation returning however I’m afraid I can’t recommend this hotel.
